PISTOL YOUNGAssociation Director's Message

Spring 2010 has been very busy for the BSBA. With 3D shoots, spring meetings, Proposed changes in archery seasons, as well as the potential ban on bowfishing, even the annual hog hunt was hard to fit in. We found time to place emphasis on all agendas and all were successful. First off was the proposed change to Area 1 & 6 deer seasons. The BSBA was very much a part of the vocal out cry to these changes. Just as the dust was settling on this potential fiasco the proposed ban on Bowfishing raised it’s ugly head. We got involved very quickly and as with the proposals to change deer season, this too was thrown out. The BSBA, as well as the general public was very vocal on both of these proposals. This was just two examples of politicians with a hidden agenda, and we helped to stop it. Thanks to all BSBA members as well as non-members. Apparently all the e-mails, phone calls and letters worked because both proposals were thrown out as quick as they got started. Thistlewaite and Sherburne CO-OP shoots were again a success. These monies that are raised help these two WMA’s tremendously in farm equipment, plot seed, targets, bows, etc. A big thanks goes out to Karl & Keith Crow of Advanced Hunting Equipment in Opelousas, La. Keith came out to Thistlewaite to observe and see how the event went. He was very much impressed and asked what he could do to support the Sherburne event. He donated 8 = $25 gift certificates to be given to 1st place winners in certain divisions as well as a Carson Hunting Apparel Bowhunter safety harness to be raffled off to all registered shooters. Also I would like to recognize Wesley Lamartiniere of Bayou Boys Archery in Moreauville, La. He donated a set of Vapor Trail Strings to the winner of the novelty at Sherburne. At the Thistlewaite event setup day we held our Spring meeting. A lot of good points were brought up, discussed and decided on. Thanks to all involved parties who attended and help organize all events. This past weekend I was able to attend The Straight Arrow Foundations “ Shoot for our Troops “ 3D event. It was a blast. Thanks to Quachita Parish Sheriff Royce Toney, Scott and Barbara Smith. Yall have a good thing going. Well it’s getting that time of the year again. Lots of bow practice, working at the lease, and planning hunting trips. Make a commitment to help someone experience the sport of archery.

Thanks again for your support,
Pistol Young
