History

History of the Bayou State Bowhunters Association

The Bayou State Bowhunters Association (BSBA) was founded in early 1992 by a group of dedicated bowhunters (Harold and Nita Barnette, Homer, Jim Smith, Bossier City, Troy Alexander, Shreveport). These bowhunters felt that all Louisiana Bowhunters should join together to foster, expand, strengthen and develop the sport of bowhunting and bowfishing. The BSBA is home based in Homer, Louisiana.

The BSBA is a nonprofit organization comprised entirely of volunteers. The association objectives are many: The BSBA is committed to participating with local, state and national conservation organizations to assist in the restoration and development of wildlife habitats via the development and promotion of numerous conservation programs. Equally important to the association, is the promotion of ethical and responsible behavior afield. Individually and collectively, the organization has provided leadership through example and through development and support of numerous educational programs. These educational endeavors are evidenced by the numerous statewide projects and events.

Other objectives are equally significant. The organization has committed itself to working with State and Federal Wildlife agencies to help secure additional time afield for the bowhunters of the State. The membership of the BSBA, through the diversity of our projects has shown time and time again that we care deeply about Louisiana, its people, its resources and its environment. We feel our list of accomplishments lead evidence to the active nature of the membership of this association.
